The St. David's Episcopal Church is located in downtown Austin,
TX at 7th and San Jacinto streets.
The church dates back to 1847 and boasts some twenty stained-glass
windows, dating from 1876 to 1969. The Italian-marble altar dates
from 1900 with many other chairs, credance, and choir stalls date
from the 1880s. The pulpit dates from 1869. It was said that for
many years this was the largest Episcopal church west of the Mississippi
river.
St. David's was the Mansbendel family's home church. Peter and
Clo along with their children were active members with them both
singing in the choir. Peter carved a beautiful prayer bench in 1916
(now located in the small chapel) and a Gothic limestone altar located
in the main chapel. There is also a carved mahogany plaque dedicated
the Peter's daughter. (Valerie Mansbendel Williams) It was carved
by one of Peter's apprentices Victor Heath.
