Plaster
Test Pieces
Mansbendel often worked in plaster on the initial portrait
relief. Once the client approved the plaster he would then
move to wood. |
Judge R.L. Batts

This is the plaster test relief of RL Batts. Later a version
was bronzed and is now located at main building at UT(circa
1938). Located on the second floor near the elevator lobby
which are faced with limestone over a base of black marble
with a richly decorated ceiling. On the north wall, next to
the stairway, is a bronze plaque of R.L. Batts, Professor
of Law, United States Circuit Judge, and Regent of The University,
who died in 1935.

Cardinal Spellman

According to Bill Williams (PM Grandson) The
plaster reliefs are possibly Austin's Catholic Diocese dignitaries
including Cardinal Spellman and a Mother Superior.
